Selfies, Mirrors & You

Ever walk down that terrifying isle at Lowe's or Home Depot? You know, the one with mirrors from floor to ceiling, revealing every unflattering angle of your body in the buzzing fluorescent lights? Not even the best Instagram filter can save that image.
So many of us, myself included, are terrified to see ourselves in a way that might not be part of the polished image we hope to maintain. We can attempt to step out of pictures being taken and avoid mirrors wherever possible, but there's a much deeper issue below the surface. We're afraid to admit we have faults.
In an era of selfies and air brush, it is all too easy to fall into a trap of losing our sense of self-worth just by looking around. And while we all know those magazine covers are fake and that there's a ridiculous amount of time and energy put into celebrity pictures, (Kylie Jenner admits to taking up to 500 pictures just to find the 'one' [1.]) it does little to satisfy our feelings of insecurity.
What's worse, we can try and mask it in overcompensating the other way - going on the offensive for people who post 'too many selfies' or attack the 'photoshopped models' as if it's their own faults. Everyday people miss the point of self-worth and fall prey to needing to tear something apart to feel better about themselves.
All of this misses the point. In the end, there are only two sources that can give you self worth: you & your Creator. And truly, only one of those opinions matters.
If we were actually created by God, knit together in our mother's womb, than that 'person's' opinion ought to carry the most weight of all! A proper understanding if who we are should bring us to the idea that no opinion matters aside from that of God's.
While it sounds like clique, try it. Instead of looking into the mirror trying to convince ourselves 'you're pretty, you're hot, you're cool', let's look ourselves dead in the eye and remind us who made us and what they think.
