Hey Big Guy!

Ah, the phrase every guy who's 'larger' than a medium loves: "Hey big guy!"

Now I understand that typically, there's no disrespect intended.  Near as most people would likely think, it's simply a statement of fact; you are bigger than I am so I'll call you big.

Problem is, it doesn't fall so innocent on the ears of the 'big guy.'  If I can be honest, it can even be hurtful.

Look, I understand I'm a big dude.  I wore size 13 shoes in 7th grade.  I'm use to being the tallest, biggest guy in the room.  But all the extra comments and jokes about size are easy to come by, usually as easy to teachers and adults as fellow students.  And while I've developed a thick skin (no, that was not a pun!) about it all, I still hear them all the time.

Here's a list of some of my favorites:

(All of the following are real life examples that I've been called)

- "He was your size, but like all muscle"

- "He's the big dude over there, can't miss him"

- "Now you look like you could eat!"

- "I knew you were coming so I made plenty extra food"

- "Oh, you aren't that big"

- "He's larger than life {chuckle, chuckle}

- "Hey Biggie!"

- "Sure that's gonna hold your weight?"

- "He was a really, really big guy, just like you"

- [gut punches]

- [belly shaking]

There's a whole lot more.  But bottomline, it just ain't funny or clever.  Refer to people with their name. Trust me, it's going to get better results and be much more better received than remarks about someone's size.
